Well, he’s at it again. A couple of years back, Starck offered up his tremendous design skills to a property development company and the result was the fabulous and fantastical Yoo London. Now he’s just completed working with the company (Yoo) for the new apartment complex in Copenhagen, and it looks almost too good to live in. Seriously, you got to check out the interiors. The complex has 60 apartments and 6 penthouses that have floor to ceiling windows (yeah!) and one of the largest private gardens in all of Denmark. Nothin’ like indulging in the botanical goodness to really make a statement…..
Years ago, I remember watching the video clip to ‘Rockit’ and was blown away by the rhythm and especially the video clip. Then I found out it wasn’t even done by a hip hop producer, but by Herbie Hancock, and that made me just wig out. For one thing, Herbie is one of those rare musicians that really has no prejudice to genre because with each new release he’s continually trying to offer a classical, almost mathematical approach to contemporary music, experimenting with styles and offering his own view of how things could sound…Yet, you can’t forget that he’s one of the great pianists of the twentieth century….very much an inspiration in living outside of one’s own artistic comfort zone…..a nice, solid interview here………………
Seriously, so good.Wild, fantastical colours that just kill any scent of dullness in the home. This 07′ collection is really ‘on some next’. I mean, you don’t even really need to stock up on many pieces, just throw in a few cushions here and there, a rug or towel in the bathroom, and maybe a lampshade and the whole place just becomes alive. I’m really into their palette choices because what seems to be almost like a kaleidescope of colour which could have gone bad, somehow it just seems to work…..Some of their cushions really bring to mind the compact energy of glassblower Yoichi Ohira. Random, I know, but check it out for yourself and you’ll catch my drift….
Yeah, okay, this looks as if it will be the best comic adaptation yet….Spiderman promised so much, yet it kinda lost its energy a bit, X-men still got somethin in the tank, but for the most part these comic-movie offerings are clutching at air when put beside the brilliance of Pixar….Anwyay, managed to take a sneak peek at the upcoming new Ironman flick with Robert Downey Jnr as Tony Starks!! Now that’s great casting right there, probably because Downey will bring some of his character acting to what will essentially be a blockbuster….Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, Hillary Swank, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sam L Jackson and, of course, Ghostface! Haha he had to be in there, or else it just wouldn’t be the same…..peep it..
Damn, I didn’t think they’d come out with this thing so early! I mean, BMW make nice rides, but I thought other manufacturer’s would come rockin’ their version first. With climate change growing as a major concern, and with the added pressure for manufacturers from all industries to work towards more sustainable solutions to their products in the mid to long-term, so I guess it’s not surprising, heck, make that essential, that you’ve got to be thinking eco-friendly these days…..Let’s be real for a hot minute here and say that oil prices are definitely not gonna to be going down anytime soon, but anyway, just really loving the little bit extra ground clearance and the large wheel arches on the design……..fa sheeeezy!
Geez man, these guys are really doing something fantastic here, and it’s not like they’ve just popped up out of nowhere. Thing is, especially with ‘streetwear labels’, there’s not that many that really have a terrific concept, tight execution and humility to their clothes that this brand definitely has and they continue to deliver it consistently. Apart from the fact that about 90% of their last collection sold out within days, they’ve stayed true to form, which is hard to do because it’s so easy just to get stuck into the formula because it works and lose focus of the initial idea. I’m really loving their concept of bringing back that golden era when Mike and Scottie were running thing’s, when the Lakers, Celtics and Knicks were throwin’ down their weight against the rampaging Bulls, the anticipation and excitement of Tribe and De La Soul albums, elephant skins on Jordan’s, just all of it into the mix…peep it.
I kinda found this guy by accident, pretty much while searching for another person’s portfolio, but his work is both startling and beautiful all at once….Not really sure what you’d qualify his work as, but I’m of the idea that it’s narrow to limit someone’s work by giving it a label?….but it is definitely an eye-opener into the enormity of what exactly is being consumed in the West, and then just being discarded lazily for the latest versions…..Where does all that ‘stuff’ go anyway….? Check it out…
Haha this is sweet…. If anything, this is one of the great reasons to be excited about the internet. It really may become a liberator for the consumer that many said that it would be, and with sites like this one, who knows what could happen. The standards upon which certain companies survive, especially in the fickle airline market with their ticket prices and the subsequent price-matching wars that always follow, will become even more important…I think it’s early days for beta reference sites like this, but the coolness with which you’ll be able to buy your airline ticket will probably put the mind at ease…Especially when the guy at the travel agency quotes you some ridiculous price, you can just whip out the good old ‘ Well, um, sorry dude, but I’ve been tracking the prices that this flight has been going for, and that’s way above what it really should be ‘…..haha…….
Muon Speakers by Ross Lovegrove….wow!!

Don’t really know where to start when I begin to talk about the work of Ross Lovegrove – inspirational, brilliant, ground-breaking, he really is one of the few leaders of modern design. I remember the first time I saw the water bottle that he designed for TyNant and couldn’t even believe what I was looking at……it was actually jaw-dropping, like ‘ I can’t believe someone designed this thing!’. If you haven’t seen it, find a way to get hold of it…… Well, he’s really moving ahead this time because these speakers that he’s done for British acoustic company KEF is beyond what anyone is designing right now for loudspeakers. At $140,00 they are delivering the best sound money can buy….. I bet! So, I could go on and on, but just go here…….
For years now, Shepard Fairey has been trailblazing the whole street art scene, turning it on it’s head and all the while mixing together a wonderful concoction of style and rebellion which, when he began, hadn’t really been done before. His Obey street posters, especially when he was doing the ‘Andre the Giant’ stuff, became cultural icons, not to mention a refreshing new direction into what was becoming a tired graffiti scene. He also started a company with artist Dave Kinsey (who is now famous in his own right as well!) called BlackMarket (BLK/MRKT) , but has since blown up into producing a clothing label, shoe design, even film posters for Hollywood…..so check this interview out….
